Nearly eight years after its original television run, Aangan is set to return to television, bringing back memories of its emotional period drama.
The channel announced the comeback on Instagram through a short teaser. Although the teaser revealed little about the return, it quickly brought the drama back into the spotlight.
The announcement has also renewed interest in its impressive ensemble cast, which featured several of Pakistan’s most recognisable television actors.
Sajal Aly, Ahad Raza Mir and Mawra Hocane Led the Drama
Sajal Aly, Ahad Raza Mir and Mawra Hocane were among the leading performers in Aangan. Mawra played Aaliya, whose journey formed one of the central threads of the story. Her character navigated love, family relationships and changing social circumstances within a complicated household.
Meanwhile, Sajal and Ahad appeared as Chammi and Jameel. Their characters became closely connected to the drama’s romantic storyline.
Ahsan Khan also had a distinctive role in the series. He portrayed two separate characters, Subhan and Safdar.
Aangan Was Set During the Partition Era
Originally broadcast from December 2018 to June 2019, Aangan was based on Khadija Mastoor’s celebrated novel of the same name.
Mustafa Afridi adapted the literary work for television, while Mohammed Ehteshamuddin directed the series. Rather than focusing on one romance, the drama followed a family dealing with personal and social changes during a turbulent period.
The story explored relationships, family expectations and changing attitudes against the backdrop of the Partition of the subcontinent.
The Drama Featured a Large Ensemble Cast
Aangan brought together an extensive supporting cast alongside its main stars.
Hira Mani appeared as Tehmina, while Sonya Hussyn played Salma. Veteran actor Abid Ali portrayed Muzaffar, with Zaib Rehman appearing as Khameera Illahi.
Omair Rana played Mazhar, while Madiha Rizvi portrayed Aaliya’s mother.
The cast also included Shehroz Sabzwari, Rabia Butt, Uzma Baig and Hassan Noman.
The large ensemble allowed the story to move between different relationships and family dynamics.
Period Setting Added to Aangan’s Appeal
One of the drama’s defining elements was its recreation of an earlier era.
The production used period costumes, visual design and social settings to establish the world in which its characters lived.
