Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar has said the deadline for transferring PTI founder Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital is approaching.
Speaking to journalists outside Parliament House in Islamabad, Tarar said the transfer deadline expires at midnight tonight. He added that the Islamabad administration is responsible for carrying out the Supreme Court’s directions.
Islamabad Administration Preparing for Imranโs Transfer
Tarar said the relevant authorities are taking necessary steps to arrange Imran Khan’s transfer to the hospital.
The law minister maintained that there is still time before the deadline. He added that the situation would become clearer as the authorities move forward with the transfer.
His remarks came as the Supreme Court’s deadline for implementing its hospital transfer order draws closer.
Supreme Court Orders Imran Khanโs Hospital Transfer
The Supreme Court ordered Imran Khan’s immediate transfer to Shifa International Hospital for a comprehensive medical examination and treatment.
The court issued the directive during a hearing on Tuesday. It also ordered authorities to ensure tight security during the transfer.
Imran’s personal physician, Dr Faisal Sultan, and his sister, Dr Uzma Khan, will accompany him during the medical examination. They will bear the hospital expenses themselves.
The court also directed the authorities to establish a dedicated medical board for his treatment.
Imran to Remain at Hospital Until Next Hearing
Under the court’s directions, Imran Khan will remain at the hospital until the next hearing. The arrangement aims to facilitate his complete medical examination and treatment.
The court also issued instructions concerning security around the hospital.
Authorities were directed to maintain law and order outside the facility. Political activities and gatherings outside the hospital were also prohibited.
Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan expressed concern about the impact of any gathering on ordinary patients. He stressed that people visiting the hospital for treatment should not face inconvenience.
PTI Lawyers Assure Court of No Political Activity
During the hearing, PTI lawyers Salman Akram Raja and Shahid Khattak assured the court that no political activity would take place outside the hospital.
They also assured the court that party workers would not be allowed to gather at the facility.
The Supreme Court ordered immediate implementation of its directions. It subsequently adjourned further proceedings until September 16.
Transfer Deadline Approaches
With the midnight deadline approaching, attention is now focused on whether the Islamabad administration will complete Imran Khan’s transfer as directed.
Tarar said the necessary process is underway and indicated that there is still time to implement the order.
The transfer will require coordination between the administration, security authorities and medical officials. The Supreme Court’s instructions also require arrangements that protect both Imran’s treatment and other patients at the hospital.
