KARACHI: Karachi police have arrested Babar alias Salman Sahil, the main suspect in a case involving the theft of 59 girls’ mobile phones at a farmhouse in Gadap Town.
Police caught the suspect while he allegedly tried to sell the stolen phones. During the operation, officers recovered 40 mobile phones and a pistol from his possession.
According to police, the suspect had remained at large since the incident. Investigators also alleged that he used a SIM card registered in another person’s name.
How the Theft Took Place
The incident occurred on September 30, when organisers reportedly invited 59 girls to a farmhouse for job interviews and event-related training.
The candidates travelled to the location in two buses. However, once they arrived, organisers allegedly told them that they could not record anything and had to hand over their mobile phones.
The main suspect reportedly collected the devices in a bag before fleeing with an accomplice. Consequently, the affected girls approached Gadap Town police station and reported the theft.
Police then launched an investigation to identify those involved and recover the stolen devices.
Police Arrested Other Suspects
Investigators have also arrested several alleged accomplices. These include Waqas, who reportedly arranged the farmhouse, and coordinator Nargis.
Police suspect that the accused planned the operation after taking inspiration from a movie. However, investigators must establish the full circumstances and each suspect’s role through further investigation.
The recovery of 40 phones marks an important development in the case. Nevertheless, authorities have not confirmed whether they have recovered all 59 devices.
Police are continuing their investigation to trace the remaining phones and determine whether other individuals helped plan or carry out the alleged theft.
