The Punjab government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, has taken another step forward in its social welfare agenda by expanding the Himmat Card Program for differently-abled individuals (PWDs). The initiative, which was first launched to provide financial assistance and empowerment to PWDs across the province, has now entered Phase II as of August 2025.
In this new phase, the government has announced that an additional 25,000 differently-abled persons will benefit from the program. Each beneficiary will receive quarterly financial assistance of Rs 10,500, which will be directly accessible through the Himmat Card.
This builds upon the success of Phase I, where approximately 40,000 cards had already been issued, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to nearly 65,000 individuals.
The Himmat Card functions like an ATM card, making the stipend both easy to access and transparent in its delivery. Beneficiaries can withdraw their quarterly payments through biometric verification at designated social welfare camps.
This system ensures that the funds reach the rightful recipients without delays or irregularities. To further strengthen transparency, the Punjab government has also set up a dedicated monitoring cell tasked with overseeing the entire process, from verification to disbursement.
The broader aim of this program goes beyond providing financial assistanceโit is about empowerment and inclusion. By offering regular stipends, the government is helping differently-abled citizens achieve greater economic independence while reducing financial burdens on families.
The dignified and structured mechanism of the Himmat Card also instills confidence among recipients, ensuring that support is provided reliably and fairly.
This initiative is part of a larger social welfare framework being rolled out under CM Maryam Nawazโs leadership. Alongside the Himmat Card, the Punjab government has also launched programs such as the E-Taxi Scheme 2025 offering interest-free electric taxis, the Free WiFi Program 2025 to expand internet accessibility, and the Green Credit Program 2025, which provides citizens opportunities to earn cash incentives and subsidies for adopting eco-friendly practices.
With Phase II now underway, the Himmat Card Program continues to expand its reach and impact. By offering consistent financial support and easy access through modern systems, the initiative reaffirms the governmentโs dedication to inclusive development and social protection for marginalized groups in Punjab.
