An Indonesian woman has been rescued in Hyderabad after allegedly being brought to Pakistan on a marriage promise.
She later alleged that her husband confined her inside a house and took possession of her passport and other documents. Police recovered the woman following a court order. The incident has since prompted renewed calls for greater protection for women.
Indonesian Woman Seeks Help From Officials
The woman, identified as Anda Marlin, contacted the Women Development Department through a message.
She alleged that she had travelled to Pakistan after receiving a promise of marriage. However, she claimed that she was later kept inside a residence against her will.
Marlin also alleged that her husband had taken control of her passport and other legal documents.
Following her complaint, Nasreen Palijo took immediate notice. Palijo heads the complaint cell of the Women Development Department.
She contacted police and submitted a request to Nasim Nagar Police Station for the woman’s recovery.
Police Action Follows Court Order
Police reportedly responded in writing that no action had been taken regarding the complaint about the woman’s alleged presence.
When the matter remained unresolved, Palijo approached the court for further intervention.
The court subsequently ordered police to take action. Following the order, police raided a house in Gul Latif Society, Qasimabad.
They recovered the Indonesian woman from the residence. The Women’s Police Station later presented her before the court.
The recovery followed a series of efforts to address the woman’s allegations and secure her protection.
Women Development Department Calls for Protection
Nasreen Palijo said everyone is equal before the law. She also described harassment and unlawful confinement of women as serious offences.
She said the Women Development Department would continue taking all possible measures to protect and support women. Furthermore, Palijo said police officers must fully cooperate with the department in cases involving women’s protection and welfare.
The case remains centred on the woman’s allegations of confinement and the circumstances surrounding her stay in Pakistan. Meanwhile, her recovery after the court order has brought the matter before the relevant authorities for further proceedings.
