ISLAMABAD: Maldivian President Dr Mohamed Muizzu arrived in Islamabad today for a three-day state visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation between Pakistan and the Maldives.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif invited President Muizzu for the October 20-22 visit, which marks the first visit by a Maldivian president to Pakistan in 11 years. The visit also coincides with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, established in 1966.
President Muizzu is accompanied by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed and a high-level delegation comprising cabinet ministers and senior government officials.
During the visit, Muizzu will meet President Asif Ali Zardari, who will host a state banquet in his honour. He will also hold bilateral and delegation-level talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The discussions will focus on strengthening cooperation in trade, investment, health, education, tourism, agriculture, defence, maritime security, climate change and people-to-people exchanges. The leaders will also discuss regional and international developments of mutual interest.
A Pakistan-Maldives Business Forum will take place during the visit to encourage interaction between business communities and identify opportunities for trade and investment.
Officials expect the two countries to sign several agreements and memorandums of understanding covering different areas of cooperation.
The visit provides an opportunity for both countries to strengthen their longstanding relationship and explore new avenues for economic collaboration. Pakistan and the Maldives maintain diplomatic ties based on mutual respect and cooperation at regional and international forums.
The visit is expected to reinforce bilateral engagement and establish a foundation for closer cooperation in the years ahead.
