Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has promoted Lieutenant General Aamer Raza to the rank of four-star general and appointed him Commander National Strategic Command (CNSC).
The Prime Minister’s Office announced the decision on Friday and congratulated the newly appointed commander on his new responsibility.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also expressed his best wishes for General Aamer Raza as he takes charge of the important position.
New Role Created After Constitutional Changes
The position of Commander National Strategic Command was introduced after the 27th Constitutional Amendment, which changed the military command structure.
The role replaces the nuclear management responsibilities previously handled by the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC).
The amendment abolished the CJCSC position and created a new command framework for the armed forces.
The CNSC appointment focuses on managing strategic responsibilities under the revised military structure.
Appointment Linked to Chief of Defence Forces Recommendation
Under the constitutional changes, the appointment, reappointment, and extension of the CNSC depend on recommendations from the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF).
The amendment created the CDF position to establish a unified command system among Pakistan’s armed forces.
It also states that decisions related to the CNSC appointment cannot face legal challenges in any court.
The changes aim to strengthen coordination and improve command arrangements within the country’s defence system.
Aamer Raza Takes Key Strategic Position
Lieutenant General Aamer Raza previously served as the Chief of General Staff of the Pakistan Army before his promotion.
Last year, Field Marshal Asim Munir became Pakistan’s first Chief of Defence Forces after the approval of the 27th Constitutional Amendment.
The latest appointment marks another major development in Pakistan’s evolving military command structure.
