Pakistan’s Ministry of Interior has introduced a major administrative restructuring, changing the names of several wings and senior positions. The changes also redistribute reporting responsibilities across key departments, according to an official office order issued on October 20.
The revised structure aims to clarify departmental roles and improve coordination across the ministry.
International Cooperation Wing Replaces Existing Wing
Under the new arrangement, the ministry has placed the ICT/CDA Wing under the Special Secretary. It has also renamed the International Instruments Wing as the International Cooperation Wing and placed it under the same official.
Flight Lieutenant (Retired) Asim Ayub has been appointed Joint Secretary for International Cooperation.
Meanwhile, the ministry has redesignated the Joint Secretary (Law) position as Joint Secretary (Visa and Citizenship). Tariq Salam will hold additional charge of the post.
New Roles for Treaties and Visa Affairs
The restructuring also changes several deputy secretary positions to reflect their revised responsibilities.
The ministry has renamed Deputy Secretary (FATF) as Deputy Secretary (Treaty Compliance and FATF). It has redesignated Deputy Secretary (International Instruments and Policies) as Deputy Secretary (Treaties and Negotiations).
Similarly, Deputy Secretary (Political External) will now serve as Deputy Secretary (Visa).
The ministry has also created a new post of Deputy Secretary (Citizenship), appointing Uzair Ahmed to the position. In addition, it has placed the IT Cell under the administrative control of the Joint Secretary (Administration).
Section Officer Positions Also Renamed
The changes extend to several section officer positions dealing with international affairs, treaties and security.
Section Officer (FATF) will now be known as Section Officer (Treaty Compliance and FATF). The ministry has renamed Section Officer (IC-II) as Section Officer (MLA).
It has also redesignated Section Officer (ITA-I) as Section Officer (Multilateral Treaties) and Section Officer (ITA-II) as Section Officer (Bilateral Treaties).
Other changes include renaming Section Officer (Political External) as Section Officer (Foreign Coordination). The ministry has redesignated Section Officer (Visa) as Visa-I and Section Officer (India-I) as Visa-II.
Additionally, Section Officer (IC-I) will now handle Extradition and Interpol, while Section Officer (Police) has become Section Officer (Police/CD).
Reporting Lines Revised Across Departments
The revised structure also changes reporting arrangements for several administrative and security-related sections.
Officers dealing with NADRA, security and NAP/NACTA will report to the newly designated deputy secretary. Sections responsible for arms, the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) will also report to the newly designated deputy secretaries.
The ministry said it would issue a separate order detailing the distribution of work and responsibilities under the revised structure.
