President of France Emmanuel Macron is holding separate meetings with Russian and Ukranian Presidents to defuse war-tension.
Macron is scheduled to meet Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Monday (Feb 7, 2022) while a day after (Tuesday), he will hold meeting Ukranian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Macron said he was aiming for “dialogue with Russia and de-escalation” from the talks.
So far, Macron is the first western leader holding direct meetings with the Russian and Ukranian Presidents to use diplomatic channel to avert war between the two countries.
According to media reports, the concentration of 100,000 Russian soldiers and military equipment near the Ukraine border has triggered Western fears that Moscow may be planning an attack on Ukraine.
Russia, nevertheless, has denied this perception and accused the United States-led NATO military alliance of undermining the region’s security.
Meanwhile, Ukraine government officials have also downplayed the United States prediction of Russian attack on Ukraine and possible killing of thousands of Ukranian civilian and military personnel.
Also, Russian wants NATO to bar Ukraine and other ex-Soviet nations from membership and roll back forces from Eastern Europe. Washington and NATO have rejected Russia’s demands as non-starters.
