The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has increased the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for September.
The LPG price has risen by Rs4.33 per kilogram under the latest notification. Following the increase, OGRA has fixed the new LPG price at Rs258.65 per kilogram.
The new rates will take effect from September 1, 2026. Therefore, consumers will pay higher prices for LPG during the new month.
Domestic LPG cylinder price also increases
The increase has also affected the price of domestic LPG cylinders. The price of an 11.8-kilogram domestic LPG cylinder has increased by Rs51.17. As a result, the new consumer price has been set at Rs3,052.09.
OGRA has also fixed the consumer LPG price at Rs258,651.52 per tonne. Meanwhile, the authority has increased the LPG producer price by Rs4,336.17 per tonne.
The producer price for September now stands at Rs217,351.52 per tonne. The revised rates will remain applicable from September 1, following OGRA’s latest decision.
FIA investigates LPG tanker at Port Qasim
The LPG price increase comes as the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) investigates another development involving the sector.
The agency has initiated an inquiry into an LPG tanker that arrived at Port Qasim in Karachi. The tanker allegedly carried forged import documents, prompting authorities to begin an investigation.
According to preliminary information, the investigation concerns a vessel named Venus 09.
The tanker docked at Port Qasim carrying LPG reportedly imported from Oman.
FIA officials have questioned the ship’s captain. They have also confiscated relevant documents for verification.
Tanker carried thousands of tonnes of LPG
Preliminary records indicate that the tanker transported approximately 3,267 metric tonnes of LPG.
The shipment was valued at around Rs1.25 billion. Sahil Gas Company imported the consignment.
The LPG was offloaded at the port with permission from Customs authorities.
However, FIA officials are now verifying the original import location of the shipment. They are also examining other details linked to the consignment.
The investigation will determine the authenticity of the import documents and other relevant information.
FIA recommends holding tanker at port
FIA has recommended that authorities prevent the tanker from leaving Port Qasim. The recommendation will remain in place until the investigation is completed. Meanwhile, officials are continuing to verify the documents and other details surrounding the shipment.
The development comes alongside OGRA’s latest LPG price increase, which will raise the cost of LPG for consumers from September 1.
As a result, both the revised LPG rates and the ongoing tanker investigation have placed the fuel sector under renewed attention.
