The Lahore High Court has summoned the Faisalabad Capital City Police Officer (CPO) over alleged flaws in a blackmail investigation. The case involves accusations that a woman was blackmailed using an objectionable video. Consequently, the court questioned the quality of the police inquiry.
Court Questions Investigation Process
Justice Amjad Rafiq heard the bail petition filed by accused Usman alias Kaka. During the hearing, the investigating officer failed to appear before the court.
The judge expressed dissatisfaction with the investigation’s progress. Furthermore, the court observed that investigators had neither conducted a proper inquiry nor collected essential forensic evidence.
The court also questioned why forensic analysis had not been carried out. It said basic investigative procedures appeared to have been overlooked despite the serious nature of the allegations.
Defence Seeks Bail for Accused
Defence counsel Irfan Kallar argued that his client had no connection with the alleged offence. He maintained that the accused had been implicated because he shared the same name as the actual suspect.
Moreover, the defence described the blackmail allegations as baseless. It argued that the prosecution had failed to produce any concrete evidence linking the petitioner to the alleged crime.
The defence further claimed the accused had been falsely implicated and requested the court to grant bail. However, the court took serious notice of the investigation’s shortcomings and the investigating officer’s absence.
As a result, Justice Amjad Rafiq ordered the Faisalabad CPO to appear in person at the next hearing. The court adjourned proceedings until July 21.
