IHC orders swift scheduling of Imran Khan’s sentence suspension plea.
ISLAMABAD: Summoning the entire case record, the Islamabad High Court has issued a written order regarding the hearing of the appeal filed by PTI Chairman Imran Khan against his sentence in the Toshakhana criminal case.
The Islamabad High Court, under the leadership of Chief Justice Aamir Farooq and Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangir, has taken a significant step by issuing notices to the concerned parties regarding Imran Khan’s appeal.
This appeal pertains to both his sentencing and the suspension of the sentence in the Toshakhana case. Imran Khan himself filed the appeal against the trial court’s ruling on August 5.
The trial court’s decision had resulted in a three-year prison sentence and a five-year disqualification for Imran Khan.
The trial court conducted proceedings against the PTI chief based on a complaint from the Election Commission of Pakistan. In its verdict, the trial court imposed a three-year prison sentence on Imran Khan along with a fine of Rs100,000.
The court’s directive specified that it would issue notices to the relevant parties and summon the case records.
The high court, in turn, instructed that it should promptly address Imran Khan’s request for the suspension of his sentence.
Imran Khan personally lodged the petition seeking the suspension of his sentence and subsequent release on bail.
