Thunderstorms, Rain, and Hail Expected in Multiple Pakistani Cities as Weather Patterns Shift

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather alert predicting widespread rainfall across various regions of the country starting today. The forecast includes thunderstorms, gusty winds, and potential hailstorms in several areas.

The regions likely to be impacted include Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Potohar region, Islamabad, northeastern Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan. These areas are expected to see cloudy skies with intervals of rainfall and thunderstorm activity.

Specifically, thunderstorms and rain are expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Shangla, Murree, Galiyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Some locations could experience hail, while other parts of the country, particularly the southern and central regions, are likely to remain hot and dry.

Today’s highest temperatures were recorded in Dadu and Shaheed Benazirabad at 45°C, followed closely by Larkana, Jacobabad, Sukkur, and Mohenjo Daro at 44°C, with Rohri and Bahawalpur hitting 43°C.

In light of the extreme heat, a heatwave advisory has also been issued in parts of Punjab, with authorities urging the public to follow safety guidelines.

On the previous day, most regions experienced hot and dry conditions, especially in the plains. However, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, southern Punjab, southern Balochistan, and parts of Gilgit-Baltistan received scattered showers accompanied by strong winds and thunder.

The heaviest rainfall was recorded in Dir (15mm), followed by Pattan (10mm), Kalam (9mm), and Malam Jabba and Cherat (4mm). Light rain was also observed in areas like Peshawar, Chitral, and Drosh. In Gilgit-Baltistan, Gupis received 4mm while Hunza saw 3mm. Dera Ghazi Khan in Punjab and Panjgur in Balochistan each recorded 1mm of rainfall.

Residents in areas likely to be affected by this unstable weather are advised to remain vigilant and take appropriate precautions to stay safe.
