Severe Weather Alert
The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) has issued a comprehensive weather alert warning residents across Punjab — including the capital territory Islamabad and Rawalpindi — to brace for intense rain, hailstorms, and powerful winds expected to impact the region over the coming days.
According to the NEOC’s advisory, the upcoming weather system poses a significant threat to both urban and rural areas. Districts such as Attock, Chakwal, Gujrat, and Jhelum are expected to experience heavy rain accompanied by hail, raising concerns about possible damage to infrastructure and disruption to daily life.
The alert further extends to central Punjab, with major districts including Lahore, Faisalabad, Hafizabad, Jhang, Khushab, Mianwali, Narowal, Sahiwal, Sargodha, and Sheikhupura also forecasted to be hit by severe weather.
The NEOC has cautioned that the combination of strong winds and heavy downpours may lead to widespread power outages, the uprooting of trees, and increased risk of accidents.
The advisory warns that weakened infrastructure such as old electric poles, dilapidated rooftops, and unstable trees may pose a serious hazard to public safety. Authorities have advised citizens to avoid sheltering under such structures during storms.
Particularly at risk are the standing crops across Punjab’s vast agricultural zones. With hail and torrential rains looming, farmers have been urged to take necessary precautions to minimize losses.
The storm could severely damage wheat and other seasonal crops, potentially impacting food supplies and farmer livelihoods. The NEOC has emphasized the importance of proactive measures, including securing equipment and implementing drainage strategies to protect farmlands.
Citizens have been strongly advised to remain indoors unless travel is absolutely necessary. In case of emergencies, residents are encouraged to stay informed through official channels and follow the instructions of local disaster management authorities.
With the forecast indicating turbulent weather, the NEOC’s alert underscores the importance of preparedness and community awareness to mitigate the impact of the approaching storms.
