US Strongly Condemns ‘Heinous Acts’ Like Burning Holy Quran and Religious Books

ISLAMABAD: The US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller stated that the United States (US) strongly condemns ‘heinous acts’ such as the burning or desecration of the Quran and other religious books.

Miller further stated that the US supports people’s rights to freedom of religion, belief, peaceful gatherings, and speech. He made it clear that the US acknowledges everyone’s right to freedom of expression.

Additionally, the US State Department spokesperson addressed Pakistan’s elections and recent terrorism incidents. He stated that he refrains from expressing confidence or lack of confidence in the Taliban.

“We will continue to urge the Taliban to fulfill their promises. Additionally, we will maintain the capacity to conduct counterterrorism actions in the region,” the spokesperson declared. He emphasized that despite the Taliban’s assurances, the US will retain its right to safeguard its interests.

In response to a question, Miller clarified that the US supports fundamental democratic principles in Pakistan, which encompass independent media, freedom of expression, and peaceful gatherings. He emphasized that the United States (US) advocates for the rule of law universally.

Furthermore, the US State Department reiterated its rejection of allegations concerning ‘cypher,’ categorizing them as entirely ‘baseless.’

State Department spokesperson Mathew Miller, while briefing the media, stated, “I don’t know how many times I can respond to this question from the podium and give the same answer, which is that these allegations, such as they are, are completely unfounded.”

Miller further emphasized that the US refrains from involvement in domestic political matters and does not take sides on political parties in Pakistan or any other country.

Earlier this month, the United States (US) explicitly clarified that it does not exert pressure on Pakistan or any other nation to choose sides between Washington and Beijing.

During the Department of State’s press briefing, spokesperson Matthew Miller addressed questions about the United States’ role in supporting Pakistan’s economic recovery. He also provided insights into the US stance on Pakistan’s relations with China.

Pakistan’s Minister for State for Foreign Affairs, Ms. Hina Rabbani Khar, asserted Islamabad’s non-alignment in the global rivalry between the United States and China during an interview.

The United States, represented by spokesperson Miller, clarified that it does not pressure Pakistan or any other country to pick sides.

Miller reaffirmed the US commitment to supporting Pakistan during challenging times and highlighted their focus on strengthening trade and investment ties for a robust bilateral relationship.
