RAWALPINDI: General Michael Erik Kurilla, the chief of US Central Command (Centcom), visited Pakistan and met with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir at the military’s General Headquarters. Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed the meeting through an official statement.
As per the ISPR statement, during the meeting between Commander Centcom and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Syed Asim Munir, they discussed various matters of mutual interest, regional security situation, defense and security cooperation, with a particular focus on military-to-military ties.
The visiting dignitary praised Pakistan’s accomplishments in the war against terrorism. He acknowledged the country’s efforts in promoting regional peace and stability.
During his last visit in 2022, the US Centcom chief paid tribute to the Martyrs of Pakistan by laying a floral wreath at the Martyrs’ Monument.
A well-presented contingent of the Pakistan army rendered a guard of honor to the distinguished guest.
Additionally, the visiting dignitary visited Torkham, where he was briefed on the counter-terrorism measures. He also received a briefing on border management mechanisms in place along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
Army Chief Reaches Iran To Discuss Bilateral Security Matters
Earlier, Army Chief General Asim Munir arrived in Tehran, Iran for an official visit lasting two days. During his time there, he will engage in meetings with both Iranian military and civilian leaders.
The discussions will primarily focus on bilateral matters concerning defense and security cooperation.
Pakistan and Iran share strong diplomatic, political, and military relations. Both nations are committed to resolving issues and safeguarding common interests.
