KARACHI ISLAMABAD: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has implemented a ban on the imports of fresh meat from Pakistan.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has imposed a ban on the import of frozen meat from Pakistan via the sea route. This decision follows the discovery of quality issues with the meat imported from Pakistan. The ban was initiated after fungus was detected on meat imported by a Karachi-based company to the UAE. This ban will be in effect until October 10.
It is worth noting that Pakistan exports fresh meat to the UAE through the sea route. The monthly value of these exports amounts to $12 million. Pakistan primarily exports its meat to the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain.
ADB Economic Outlook Report: Pakistan’s Inflation Expected To Drop From 29% To 25%
Meanwhile, according to an ADB report, inflation in Pakistan is projected to decrease from 29 percent to 25 percent in the ongoing fiscal year, driven by increasing economic confidence due to the general elections in 2023-24.
However, the report anticipates persistent high inflationary pressure due to increasing energy prices and a depreciating rupee. It forecasts Pakistan’s GDP to reach 1.9 percent in 2024.
