NARAN: Two ice glaciers ruptured at Naran, a renowned tourist destination in Balakot, resulting in a calamitous event that flattened numerous hotels and residences beneath their immense weight.
The incident has sparked concerns over potential financial losses amounting to tens of millions of rupees.
Responding promptly, the Kaghan Development Authority convened an emergency session to address the situation, forming a specialized team tasked with evaluating the extent of the damage.
Reports from Naran indicate that the eruption of the Ghamla and Chapran glaciers on Lake Road triggered avalanches, engulfing several businesses in their wake.
However, the emergence of multiple avalanches blocking access roads has significantly hindered government agencies’ efforts to conduct comprehensive damage assessments.
Under the leadership of Muhammad Shabbir Khan, Director General of the Kaghan Development Authority, the emergency meeting saw the formation of a dedicated team assigned to expedite damage evaluation.
Their responsibilities include facilitating the reopening of Naran Road and presenting recommendations to the governing board.
Once road access is restored, swift measures will be taken to aid affected property owners along Lake Road in their recovery efforts.
Numerous hotels bore the brunt of the glacier’s descent onto Naran Lake Road yesterday.
Shabir Khan, Director General of the Kaghan Development Authority (KDA), remarked that various sections of Naran road remain inaccessible due to the glacier’s impact, as discussed in the emergency meeting of the KDA.
While Naran Bazar has been reported as entirely secure with no loss of life, approximately eight hotels on Lake Road have suffered severe damage. Initial assessments of the damage are underway in collaboration with local authorities.
