Toyota to Completely Shut Down Production for 10 days

As operational issues worsen, Toyota Indus Motor Company (IMC) has announced additional non-production days (NPDs) for December 2022.

According to a recent notification, the State Bank of Pakistan’s (SBP) restriction on automotive imports will force the company to halt production and assembly operations between December 20 and 30, 2022.

According to the company, this has made importing knockdown kits difficult and Caused inventory issues.

Notification: The delay in the aforesaid approvals for the company and its vendors, has created hurdles in the import and clearance of consignments for raw materials and components of the company. This has resulted in insufficient inventory levels and consequently has created an adverse impact on the supply chain and production activities.

Previous reports claim that SBP delayed the LC approval for CKD imports, delaying both production and delivery. In order to adapt to the current situation, Toyota IMC and a number of other automakers decided to implement non-production days (NPDs).

The SBP’s new actions have had a significant impact on the local auto industry, as several automakers have had to halt production in order to deal with ongoing administrative and financial challenges.
