When discussing his diet, the centenarian revealed that he abstains from smoking and only occasionally indulges in alcoholic beverages. Hailing from Liverpool, Tinniswood shared that he enjoys fish and chips every Friday and attributes his longevity partly to luck.

This week, Guinness World Records bestowed the title of the longest-living person on Earth upon an Englishman named John Alfred Tinniswood, following the passing of Juan Vicente Pérez.

Tinniswood, currently aged 111 years and 224 days succeeds Vicente Pérez, who lived for 114 years and 11 months old.

In an interview with Guinness World Records, Tinniswood remarked, “You either live long or you live short, and you can’t do much about it.”

When discussing his diet, the centenarian revealed that he abstains from smoking and only occasionally indulges in alcoholic beverages. Hailing from Liverpool, Tinniswood shared that he enjoys fish and chips every Friday and attributes his longevity partly to luck.

He advised moderation in life, cautioning against excessive indulgence in any activity, stating, “If you drink too much or you eat too much or you walk too much; if you do too much of anything, you’re going to suffer eventually.”

Born on August 26, 1912, Tinniswood has lived through significant historical events, including two world wars, the Great Influenza, and the COVID-19 pandemics.

He also holds the distinction of being the world’s oldest surviving male World War II veteran, as acknowledged by Guinness World Records.

Currently residing in a care home in the English seaside town of Southport, Tinniswood is a great-grandfather cherished by many.

Care home manager Katie Howard expressed her admiration for Tinniswood, describing him as an extraordinary individual with a wealth of stories to share.

The title of the world’s oldest living female is held by Maria Branyas Morera, a Spanish citizen who is 117 years old.
