Kurram Gun Attack
KURRAM: At least 38 people, including a woman and a child, lost their lives on Thursday in a violent attack in the Ochat area of Kurram district.
According to police reports, assailants opened fire on passenger vehicles traveling from Parachinar to Peshawar, leaving several others injured, including three women. This tragic incident marks yet another episode in the ongoing violence plaguing the region.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi strongly condemned the attack during a press conference in Islamabad, confirming the death toll.
The Kurram district has been a hotspot for intertribal clashes over the past several months, with disputes between rival factions frequently escalating into deadly violence. These clashes have already claimed dozens of lives and continue to destabilize the area.
The violence has led to the repeated closure of major roads and routes linking the district to other regions, including the border with Afghanistan.
This has caused severe hardships for local residents, who face a worsening humanitarian crisis due to acute shortages of food, medicines, petrol, and diesel.
Tribal elders from the Turi and Bangash communities have voiced concerns over the deteriorating situation, warning that the prolonged closure of transportation routes could lead to massive suffering.
Additionally, the suspension of 3G and 4G internet services in the district has further compounded the challenges faced by the local population.
Students have been unable to continue their education online, while businesses and communication in the area have also suffered greatly.
This incident follows a series of violent attacks in recent months. In September, clashes between rival tribes resulted in 60 fatalities and left dozens injured. These disputes are often rooted in land ownership disagreements.
In August, a temporary ceasefire had been negotiated between the opposing groups after armed conflicts caused 50 deaths and 226 injuries.
However, the fragile truce has failed to prevent further bloodshed, and the region remains mired in violence and instability.
