Resignation of Supreme Court Judge
Numerous experts within the realms of journalism and law have asserted that another Supreme Court justice may tender their resignation, following the recent departures of Justice Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi and Justice Ijazul Ahsan. Within legal circles, Justice Ahsan, Justice Naqvi, and Justice Munib Akhtar are perceived as “like-minded judges” with close ties to former Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Atta Bandial.
Several journalists, including Zahid Gishkori, have hinted at the possibility of yet another resignation. Gishkori, in a post on X, cryptically mentioned, “Yet another resignation could come……………..wait for it.”
Waqas Abraiz, a legal expert, addressed similar speculations during a live transmission on Aaj News. He shared his insights on the developments in the Supreme Court following Justice Ahsan’s resignation, highlighting two aspects of the situation.
Abraiz suggested that there is speculation about another judge contemplating resignation if the current circumstances persist. He refrained from disclosing the judge’s name but emphasized that this individual, along with the two recent resignees, had been closely aligned with former CJP Umer Ata Bandial.
According to Abraiz, these judges were considered favorites by the ex-CJP, and benches comprising such judges allegedly delivered judgments against a particular political party. Abraiz concluded by stating that the hinted-at judge might also choose to resign if the situation remains unchanged.
