Intelligence Operation
A Pakistan Army soldier embraced martyrdom while four terrorists were eliminated during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Maddi area of Dera Ismail Khan district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed on Thursday.
According to the military’s media wing, the operation was launched on April 16, 2025, following credible intelligence regarding the presence of militants — referred to as “Khwarij” — in the region. Security forces swiftly responded to the intelligence and launched the targeted operation in Maddi, successfully locating the terrorist hideout.
During the operation, security personnel engaged in a fierce gun battle with the terrorists. As a result of the intense exchange of fire, four militants were neutralised. The ISPR noted that the slain terrorists were involved in numerous acts of terrorism and posed a serious threat to peace and security in the area.
Tragically, the encounter also claimed the life of 23-year-old Sepoy Basit Siddique. The young soldier, described as a “brave son of the soil,” fought with unwavering courage and laid down his life in the line of duty, embracing shahadat (martyrdom).
His sacrifice was hailed by the military as a testament to the enduring commitment and resolve of the Pakistan Army to rid the country of terrorism.
Weapons and ammunition were recovered from the site, further proving the militants’ involvement in ongoing terror operations. A post-operation sanitisation process was carried out to ensure that no other threats remained in the vicinity.
The ISPR reiterated the army’s firm resolve to continue its campaign against terrorism, stating, “Such sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthen our resolve.”
The incident comes at a time when Pakistan is witnessing a significant rise in militant activities. According to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), January 2025 saw a 42% increase in terrorist attacks compared to the previous month. A total of 74 attacks resulted in 91 fatalities — including 35 security personnel and 20 civilians — while 117 others were injured.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remains the most affected province, with Dera Ismail Khan and surrounding areas being frequent targets of militant aggression. The army’s continuous efforts reflect a broader strategy to restore peace and stability in Pakistan’s most volatile regions.
