Six Family Members Tragically Drown In Canal in Swabi

A heartbreaking tragedy struck Swabi on Monday evening when six members of a family drowned after their rickshaw plunged into a canal following a collision with a tractor trolley.

By Tuesday morning, the bodies of the victims, including an elderly woman, her daughter, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren, had been recovered.

Reports indicate that 14 family members from Asota Sharif were traveling in a rickshaw to visit relatives in the Bakar area. On their return journey, their rickshaw collided with a tractor trolley near the Gohati canal, causing it to fall into the water.

The swift current of the canal swept all 14 passengers away. Local residents and rescue teams quickly responded, managing to save eight people. Tragically, six family members lost their lives.

The bodies of two women and one child were recovered on Monday evening. Later that night, the bodies of two more children were found, and the final victim, a young child, was retrieved on Tuesday morning.

The deceased were identified as a 60-year-old woman, her 30-year-old daughter, her 24-year-old daughter-in-law, two grandsons (11-year-old Muhammad Bilal and 2-year-old Muhammad Tauheed), and a 2-year-old granddaughter, Bismah.

The tragedy has deeply affected the village, with six funerals being held simultaneously, casting the community into mourning.
