At least six people lost their lives in Gujrat, Punjab, after unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire on a vehicle in Miana Chak Dinga on Sunday.
According to police, the attackers fled the scene after targeting the vehicle, and initial investigations suggest the incident was linked to personal enmity.
Rescue teams arrived promptly, transporting the victims’ bodies to the hospital. The deceased, aged between 26 and 35, were identified as Zahid Nazim (30), Mubashir (26), Zunair (30), Javed Iqbal (33), Rukhsar (35), and an unidentified 26-year-old man.
Following the attack, police cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to track down the perpetrators. The provincial police chief has taken notice of the incident and directed authorities to ensure the immediate arrest of those responsible.
Incidents of targeted killings due to personal enmity and tribal disputes remain a recurring issue in Pakistan, often exacerbated by law enforcement challenges and flaws in the legal system.
In a similar incident earlier this year, a municipal department employee was fatally shot at the Kahkashan Building on Karachi’s busy Tariq Road.
