Governor of Balochistan

QUETTA: Sheikh Jaffar Mandokhail, representing the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), took the oath of office as the Governor of Balochistan in a ceremony presided over by Chief Justice Hashim Khan Kakar of the Balochistan High Court.

This appointment marks Mandokhail as the 24th governor of the province, a significant moment witnessed at the Governor House.

The swearing-in event attracted key dignitaries, including Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bhugti, cabinet members, ministers, and provincial assembly members, signifying the importance of the occasion.

Mandokhail’s political journey has been marked by various pivotal roles within the Balochistan government, spanning from Finance Minister to Minister for Planning and Development, Education, and Revenue.

President Asif Ali Zardari’s approval of Mandokhail’s appointment underscores the significance of the role within the constitutional framework.

This approval, based on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recommendation and in line with Article 101 (1) of the Constitution, solidifies Mandokhail’s mandate as Governor of Balochistan. The decision, which received the endorsement of PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif, signals a strategic shift in gubernatorial leadership.

Mandokhail succeeds Malik Abdul Wali Khan Kakar, representing the Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M), who held the position since 2022. His appointment ushers in a new era, reflecting the political dynamics and aspirations within the province.

In a related development, the scheduled oath-taking ceremony for Punjab’s nominated governor, Sardar Saleem Haider Khan, faced postponement due to unforeseen circumstances.

While details surrounding the delay remain undisclosed, the decision reflects the intricacies and uncertainties inherent in political transitions.

The event signifies a transition of power and governance structures, underscoring the evolving political landscape in Pakistan.

Mandokhail’s tenure as Governor of Balochistan holds significant implications for the region’s socio-political trajectory, highlighting the importance of effective governance and leadership in addressing the province’s multifaceted challenges and opportunities.
