Security Drill at Adiala Jail: Joint Exercise by Security Forces Preps for Emergencies

A joint mock exercise involving the Police, Elite Force, Rescue 1122, and Bomb Disposal Squad was conducted at Adiala Jail on Tuesday to prepare for potential emergency situations within the prison premises.

The exercise aimed to enhance preparedness for emergencies within the prison, with timely and exemplary responses demonstrated by the participating security agencies. Authorities at the jail expressed intentions to conduct similar exercises in the future.

In parallel, Rawalpindi police carried out a comprehensive five-hour search operation in the vicinity of the jail. This operation involved verifying the details and whereabouts of individuals residing or conducting business in the area.

In light of security concerns, the Punjab Interior Department enforced a two-week ban on prisoner meetings, and announced plans to review security measures at three prison facilities across Punjab, including the Adiala jail, known for housing high-profile prisoners such as former Prime Minister Imran Khan, ex-Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, and former Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi.

Previously, on March 12, the Punjab home department had implemented a ban on prisoner visits at Adiala Jail, citing security threats. Additionally, media coverage was restricted in front of the jail’s gate no-5.
