ISLAMABAD: Recently, Ukraine Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba officially visited Pakistan. Which marked the first such visit by a Ukrainian foreign minister since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1993.
During a joint press conference held by Kuleba and Pakistani Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto. There was an incident where a Russian journalist was present. Despite alleged prior requests from Kyiv that no Russian journalists should be allowed. The Russian reporter was asks to leave the premises, which led to a silent protest. He said that he would raise the issue with the Russian Embassy in Islamabad.
In response to the incident, the Russian Embassy in Islamabad sought an explanation from the Pakistani Foreign Office. Expressing concerns about restricting a journalist’s right to access information.
During the visit, Kuleba had in-depth discussions with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto, covering various aspects of bilateral relations, regional issues, and global concerns. Including the security situation in South Asia and the Eurasian region.
Both foreign ministers agreed to enhance cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, higher education, agriculture, defense, and information technology for the mutual benefit of both countries. They also stressed the importance of regular dialogue and engagement. While also expressing the desire to deepen cultural exchanges and people-to-people contacts.
Bilawal Bhutto shared Pakistan’s concern about the situation in Ukraine. He also offered condolences for the region’s loss of lives and suffering. He also said the importance of peaceful resolutions to disputes and Pakistan’s readiness to support peace initiatives.
Furthermore, it was clarified that Kuleba denied media reports claiming that Pakistan was supplying arms to Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict with Russia.
