Qandeel Baloch-Inspired ‘Wakhri’ Movie to Premiere in Theatres on January 5th

“Wakhri,” the groundbreaking Pakistani film inspired by the life of the late social media sensation Qandeel Baloch, is set to make its debut in theaters on January 5, 2024, marking the first cinematic release of the year in Pakistan. The movie tackles various social issues and aims to shed light on pertinent societal concerns.

The storyline revolves around a widowed school teacher in Pakistan who inadvertently becomes a viral sensation after expressing her unfiltered opinions on social media. Faryal Mahmood, portraying the lead character, expressed optimism that “Wakhri” will contribute positively to the direction of Pakistani cinema. She emphasized that the film is a collaborative effort by women who came together to bring this project to life.

Akbar Islam, who plays the role of the Wakhri’s father in the movie, highlighted the film’s focus on portraying the affectionate relationship between a father and his daughter. The narrative aims to delve into the intricacies of these familial bonds.

The musical aspect of “Wakhri” is under the direction of Abdullah Siddiqui, with vocals provided by prominent artists such as Ali Sethi, Meesha Shafi, and Natasha Noorani, adding depth and emotion to the movie through its captivating soundtrack.

Google Agrees To Preliminary Settlement In $5 Billion Consumer Privacy Lawsuit

Meanwhile, Google has reportedly reached a preliminary agreement to settle a consumer privacy lawsuit that sought at least $5 billion in damages.

The class action lawsuit, filed in 2020, accused Google of tracking the data of users who were browsing privately.

Lawyers for the plaintiffs aimed to secure at least $5,000 for each user allegedly tracked by Google while visiting Google Analytics or Ad Manager in “private browsing mode.”

The settlement details have not been disclosed, and both Google and the lawyers for consumers have yet to comment on the agreement. The formal settlement is expected to be submitted for court approval by February 24, 2024.
