Punjab Chief Minister Greenlights Establishment of Provincial Enforcement Authority

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has given her approval for the establishment of a provincial enforcement authority in Punjab, signaling a proactive stance towards addressing various issues within the province.

During a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, detailed discussions were held regarding the formation of the provincial enforcement authority at both the district and tehsil levels. Following the briefing, Maryam Nawaz sanctioned the establishment of this authority and instructed officials to commence the legislative process immediately.

Highlighting the significance of this initiative, she emphasized that enforcement authorities would be set up in every district and tehsil across Punjab. It was further outlined that the chief secretary would lead the provincial enforcement authority, with the appointment of a director-general to oversee its operations.

At the local level, the district enforcement authority would be headed by the deputy commissioner, while the tehsil enforcement authority would be under the purview of the assistant commissioner.

These enforcement bodies are tasked with addressing various challenges, including encroachments on government lands, overpricing, electricity theft, and hoarding. To bolster their effectiveness, a police station and special force will be established at the tehsil level, managed by the tehsil enforcement unit.

The tehsil enforcement unit will be empowered to undertake investigations, make arrests, and file cases, in addition to enforcing the law. To ensure accountability and oversight, offices for both the provincial and district enforcement authorities will be established for monitoring purposes.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has set a timeline of six months for the activation of these enforcement authorities across the province, underscoring her commitment to prompt and effective governance in Punjab. This move reflects a proactive approach towards addressing various socio-economic challenges and ensuring the rule of law in the province.
