PTI’s Maleeka Bokhari and Cheema-couple quit party: Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi are among 600 who put on ECL

ISLAMABAD: Exodus in Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf continued on Thursday and former MNAs Maleeka Bokhari, Mussarat Cheema and her husband Jamshed Cheema left the party.

Addressing a press conference, Maleeka condemned the May 9 vandalism, and attacks on the army’s installations and demanded stern action against the culprits.

She said that she was not taking the decision under any pressure and the May 9 violence influenced her to quit the party.

Meanwhile, former PTI MNA Musarrat Cheema and her husband also parted ways with the party.

Soon after their release from jail, they will hold a press conference to announce that they are quitting PTI, damning May 9 attacks, and standing with the army.

Meanwhile, the Federal Investigation Agency today put on ECL names of Imran Khan, his spouse Bushra Bibi and more than 600 PTI men for their alleged involvement (direct and indirect) in May 9 riots.

16 PTI men, including former MPA to face trial in Military Courts

An anti-terrorism court in Lahore today handed over the custody of 16 PTI men, including a former MPA, to the Commanding Officer for their trial in the military court under the Army Act.

The ATC approved the custody of 16 PTI men who were involved in the attack on the Corps Commander House in Lahore on May 9, soon after the arrest of Imran Khan.

Pakistan’s ousted prime minister Imran Khan (C) waves at his party supporters during a rally in Islamabad on May 26, 2022.

The commanding officer requested the anti-terrorism court to give approval for the custody of 16 miscreants for action against them under the Army Act.

The court handed over 16 suspects, including former PTI MPA Mian Akram Usman, to the commanding officer.

The commanding officer informed the court that the suspects have been found guilty under sections 3, 7 and 9 of the Official Secrets Act.

The suspects can be tried under the Army Act 1952. The prosecution did not object to the commander’s request, the court ruled.

“The superintendent of the Camp Jail should hand over the 16 suspects to the commanding officer for further action,” the court ruled.

According to the authorities, 688 suspects, so far, have been arrested while 1,634 were still among the most wanted.

Moreover, according to the JIT officials, 422 people involved in extremist activities have been referred to the Counter-Terrorism Department for investigation.
