Abusive Remarks
ISLAMABAD: The membership of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Falak Naz was suspended for allegedly using abusive language against senior politician Faisal Vawda during a Senate session, on Tuesday.
The altercation occurred during a Senate session presided over by Chairman Yusuf Raza Gilani, where Faisal Vawda made controversial remarks that led to a heated exchange between him and Falak Naz.
The incident began when Faisal Vawda verbally attacked the founder of PTI, prompting a strong reaction from PTI Senator Falak Naz. Upset by Vawda’s remarks, Naz confronted him and asked, “How dare you take our leader’s name?” This confrontation quickly escalated into a war of words between the two.
Despite Chairman Senate Yusuf Raza Gilani’s efforts to maintain order in the session, the exchange became intense, forcing him to intervene and suspend Falak Naz’s membership for two days due to her inappropriate language. He then adjourned the session until the following day.
During the Senate session, Faisal Vawda addressed various political and military accountability issues. He notably praised Army Chief General Asim Munir for his efforts in promoting accountability within the army and prioritizing the nation’s interests.
Vawda highlighted the divisive political climate in Pakistan and criticized PTI for opposing amendments to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), which they later benefited from. He called on PTI to focus on the stability of Pakistan rather than creating further division.
Expressing his dissatisfaction with the politics of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Vawda underscored the need for serious accountability across all institutions, including political parties.
During his speech, Vawda also criticized PTI members, including Ali Amin Gandapur, accusing them of conspiring to destabilize the country and questioning whether they would ever be given power in the current political environment.
Referring to Gandapur’s speech, he said, “If you speak of breaking the jail, the responsibility of PTI founder also falls on you [Ali Amin Gandapur].”
Vawda further accused PTI leaders of seeking dialogue with the army after making damaging remarks. He claimed that Faiz Hameed and Murad Saeed were aware of political manipulations that resulted in a man’s death for political purposes. His remarks led to protests from PTI senators, while government senators defended him.
Amid the escalating tension, Faisal Vawda addressed PTI members directly, stating, “Be patient. This is just the beginning. The institutions and government are too weak to stop your abusive language.”
Despite repeated calls from Senate Chairman Yusuf Raza Gilani for order, Falak Naz refused to apologize for her remarks.
Consequently, Chairman Gilani decided to suspend her membership for two days, emphasizing the need to maintain decorum in Pakistan’s legislative institutions.
Vawda, meanwhile, demanded strict action against abusive language, stating that it should not be tolerated in parliamentary proceedings.
