ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan asserted that individuals within PTI who choose to disassociate from the party through press conferences will not be considered for election tickets.
Addressing the media outside Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, Barrister Gohar emphasized PTI’s firm stance on denying tickets to those who make such public announcements, irrespective of the number of people involved. He conveyed that PTI’s founder and former prime minister, Imran Khan, has directed the party to prepare for the upcoming general elections in 2024.
Discussing the Supreme Court’s order regarding Shah Mahmood Qureshi, the PTI chairman emphasized that it is the responsibility of the Election Commission to ensure its implementation. He mentioned that the commission had requested the party to submit an application regarding the senior PTI leader and other instances where party members were targeted.
Barrister Gohar informed the commission about the Peshawar High Court (PHC) order and urged them to upload the certificate of PTI’s intra-party elections, assuring that the commission would conduct an investigation. He asserted that revoking a party’s election symbol is tantamount to its dissolution, and only the Supreme Court holds the authority to do so.
On December 26, PTI Punjab Acting President Hammad Azhar commented that the decision regarding the return of PTI leaders, who had distanced themselves through press conferences, lies in the hands of party leader Imran Khan. Azhar stated in a tweet that individuals wishing to return would be considered on a case-by-case basis, subject to Imran Khan’s personal evaluation.
