PTI calls for countrywide protest today over alleged ‘Electoral fraud’

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has ignited a nationwide protest today, decrying what it alleges as widespread vote-rigging and demanding an immediate release of election results. In a strongly-worded statement posted on X, the party condemned the purported manipulation of votes as a direct affront to the people’s democratic choices, rallying its supporters to participate in a peaceful demonstration scheduled for 2 pm.

Pakistan held elections on February 8 to usher in a new government, with provisional results from the Election Commission of Pakistan indicating that independent candidates supported by the PTI have clinched over 100 seats in the National Assembly. Despite these initial results, the PTI remains dissatisfied, asserting allegations of election rigging. In response, numerous party leaders have taken the matter to the courts, challenging the outcomes in various constituencies.

The planned protests are set to unfold at strategic locations nationwide, including Liberty Chowk in Lahore, Ghanta Ghar in Faisalabad, the surroundings of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Office in Rawalpindi, the PHA Office in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gujranwala, the Labour Office on Gul Road in NA-80, Gujranwala, Nine Number Chowrangi in Multan, DC Office Chowk in Bahawalpur, and Traffic Chowk in Dera Ghazi Khan.

As the PTI supporters take to the streets, tensions escalate amid the unresolved election disputes, marking a pivotal moment in Pakistan’s political landscape. The country watches closely as the protests unfold, anticipating the resolution of these contentious claims and their potential implications on the nation’s democratic process.
