Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-supported candidate Dawar Kundi has secured victory in the NA-43 Tank constituency, according to unofficial results from all 348 polling stations. Kundi garnered 64,483 votes, narrowly defeating his closest rival, Mufti Asad Hammood of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI), who received 63,900 votes.
The polling process in NA-43 Tank, Dera Ismail Khan, had faced security concerns, leading to the postponement of voting at six stations on February 8. The resumed polling, which took place from 8 am to 5 pm with strict security measures and Pakistan Army troop deployment, resulted in Kundi’s triumph.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced successful candidates for 36 National Assembly seats from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Notable victors include Sibghatullah from NA-4 Upper Dir, Gohar Ali Khan from NA-10 Buner, Umar Ayub from NA-18 Haripur, Asad Qaiser from NA-19 Swabi, and Shandana Gulzar from NA-30 Peshawar. Shehryar Afridi secured victory from NA-35 Kohat, and Sher Afzal Marwat emerged victorious from NA-41 Lakky Marwat.
The notification also mentioned successes for candidates from Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), and Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Independent candidates have a three-day window to decide and join any political party of their choice.
With a population of 48.5 million, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa played a significant role in the electoral landscape, boasting 21,928,119 registered voters. The province contributed 45 seats to the National Assembly and featured 115 general seats in the provincial assembly, complemented by 26 reserved for women and 4 for non-Muslims.
The electoral process involved 15,696 polling stations and a massive turnout of 713 candidates for National Assembly seats and 1,814 for Provincial Assembly seats.
The commitment to transparency and efficiency was evident in the appointment and training of over 181,000 polling staff members. Result dissemination would be facilitated through various channels, including Form 45, EMS online, and offline platforms, ensuring a comprehensive and accurate representation of the democratic fervor in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
