ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has re-launched the PM Laptop Scheme with the aim of empowering the youth through skill development and promoting education in Pakistan.

The government held the laptop distribution ceremony in Islamabad today. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the allocation of billions of rupees for laptops, vocational training, and agriculture loans to benefit students.

PM Laptop Scheme

Underlining the significance of education, the Prime Minister emphasized the allocation of a considerable amount of funds towards providing laptops. The initiative’s objective is to equip students with essential tools for learning, thereby enhancing their educational experience. The PTI government, led by Imran Khan, halted this PLMN-led initiative during its tenure.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister expressed satisfaction with the positive impact of laptops, which proved to be valuable resources for students during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a separate announcement, the Prime Minister disclosed a substantial allocation of Rs 5 billion to support and encourage the younger generation’s participation in the agricultural sector.

It is noteworthy that last year, the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Youth Affairs, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, announced the restoration of the Prime Minister Laptop Scheme and other schemes as part of the Prime Minister’s Youth Program (PMYP).

The announcement was made during a press conference, which included Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb.

The SAPM stated that the government plans to distribute 100,000 laptops among deserving students this year through the Prime Minister Laptop Scheme program. She further added that there will be a 50 percent share for women, with the inclusion of transgender individuals. Furthermore, they have doubled the quota for Balochistan.

Regarding the Skills Development Program, the Special Assistant mentioned that over 100,000 youth will receive training in various fields, with a special emphasis on IT.
