Rawalpindi police have devised a robust security strategy to counter a planned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest scheduled for November 24. According to police sources, a total of 4,888 officers will be deployed to manage potential disruptions.
The security contingent includes 5 SPs, 21 DSPs, and 84 Inspectors and SEOs stationed across the city. Every police station will secure assigned locations with six tear gas guns and 500 tear gas shells. Officers will carry two 12-bore shotguns and 100 rubber bullets each, with backup teams available for additional support. To maintain focus, mobile phone usage will be restricted for on-duty personnel, and officers are barred from carrying unassigned weapons.
Authorities plan to prevent PTI workers from entering Rawalpindi by setting up over 40 roadblocks in Rawal Division, supported by 12 special police teams.
In Cantt Circle, 14 checkpoints will be established, while Taxila Circle will have seven. Major junctions, including the Brahma and Paswal Interchanges, will also face movement restrictions. Key roads such as the M2, M1, Old Toll Plaza, Fateh Jang Toll Plaza, and the Thalian to Chakrial Interchanges will be heavily monitored.
Thirteen locations in Saddar Circle will have roadblocks, and security will be enhanced at Metro Bus stations, with special teams stationed above the Metro track equipped with tear gas and rubber bullets.
The Chief Police Officer (CPO) and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) will be accompanied by two specialized teams from the Elite Force and Dolphin Force. Additional police units will be deployed to hospital emergency rooms, while a contingency plan is prepared for emergencies.
