The victim’s families, whose loved ones perished in the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) plane crash near Karachi airport three years ago, are still awaiting justice as the final investigation report remains pending.
The PK-8303 registered A320 made an unsuccessful attempt to land on its engines on May 22, 2020, without deploying the landing gear.
In an attempt to abort the landing, it then crashed into houses in the nearby Model Colony neighborhood, tragically killing 97 of the 99 passengers and crew members on board and one girl on the ground.
The US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and other experts eventually collaborated with the Aircraft Accident and Investigation Board (AAIB), which was established by the federal government to oversee the investigation after the disaster.

Despite the release of a preliminary report, the investigation into the incident is still ongoing because the Aircraft Accident and Investigation Board (AAIB) has not yet finished its final report.
Kashif Aman, whose mother Shahnaz Parveen was among the 97 victims of the crash stated:
“Neither the final investigation report into the crash is released, nor the departmental proceedings of the PIA and the Civil Aviation Authority were brought on record despite a passage of three years.”
He further Added: “They want to break us [relatives of plane crash victims] but we will not back out.
We demand that the government release the final investigation report and punish all those found responsible.”
Civil Aviation Authority
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), the air traffic controller, and the district administration are all being held responsible by the families of the victims for the crash and the lengthy delay in firefighting attempts.
They express worry about the Rs. 10 million in compensation that was given equally to the families of those who perished in the incident and the two survivors.
In addition, the Ministry of Aviation has not taken any action against the CAA and PIA for their claimed legal infractions, Mr. Aman emphasised, and the victim’s families have not received any compensation for luggage insurance.
On the third anniversary of the tragedy, the victim’s families gathered to remember their loved ones.
A Quran recitation ceremony (Quran Khwani) took place at Usman Ghani Park in Model Colony, near the crash site, on Sunday.
