Quran Desecration

The district and sessions court in Peshawar has sentenced a man, Kifayat ullah, to life imprisonment for desecrating the Holy Quran.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Sher Ali Khan delivered the verdict, finding the suspect guilty of burning the Quran inside a mosque in Peshawar in 2018.

Local residents captured the suspect and handed him over to the police, resulting in the registration of a case at Khazana Police Station. The prosecution completed its investigation and submitted a challan to the court.

Furthermore, in July of the current year, the United Nations Human Rights Council approved a resolution, introduced by Pakistan on behalf of the 57-nation OIC, addressing religious hatred in the aftermath of the Quran desecration incident in Sweden.

Also, the resolution called for actions to prevent and prosecute acts and advocacy of religious hatred.

This verdict demonstrates Pakistan’s commitment to addressing acts of religious desecration and upholding religious sensitivities. The UN resolution highlights the global concern over religious hatred and calls for legal measures to prevent and prosecute such acts.

Moreover, Former leader of the opposition in the National Assembly (NA), Raja Riaz, joined Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) after a meeting with the party’s supremo Nawaz Sharif in London.

Before the meeting, Riaz hinted at contesting the upcoming general elections from Faisalabad, stating that the decision would be discussed with the PML-N leadership.
