Pakistan’s Cement Industry Experiences Surge in Exports

Cement Industry

In May 2024, Pakistan’s cement industry experienced a remarkable surge in exports, as reported by the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA).

Compared to May 2023, cement exports witnessed an impressive increase of 72.16%, with a total volume of 917,962 tons exported, a substantial rise from the 533,215 tons exported during the same month the previous year.

While domestic sales also saw a positive uptick, albeit more modest, with a 7.83% increase in May 2024 compared to May 2023, the overall cement sales landscape remains optimistic.

Total sales for May 2024 amounted to 4.275 million tonnes, up from 3.965 million tonnes recorded in May 2023.

Zooming out to a broader perspective, the positive export trajectory extends throughout the first eleven months of the current financial year, spanning from July 2023 to May 2024.

During this period, total cement sales reached 41.7 million tonnes, compared to 40.516 million metric tons in the same timeframe of the previous financial year.

The driving force behind this growth narrative predominantly lies in the realm of exports. Cement exports surged significantly during the first eleven months of the current financial year, marking a remarkable increase of 66.26% and reaching 6.633 million tons.

This signifies a substantial leap from the 3.99 million tons exported during the corresponding period in the previous financial year.

Conversely, domestic sales experienced a marginal decline of 3.91% during the same eleven-month period.

This year, domestic sales amounted to 35.097 million tonnes, compared to 36.526 million tonnes in the corresponding period of the previous year.

The cement industry’s buoyant performance in exports underscores its resilience and competitiveness in the global market, contributing positively to Pakistan’s economic growth and foreign exchange earnings.
