Pakistan Urges US to Back Operation Azm-e-Istehkam

Operation Azm-e-Istehkam

Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Masood Khan, has urged Washington to provide Islamabad with advanced military equipment and small arms to support the success of Operation Azm-e-Istehkam.

Addressing a think tank at the Wilson Center in Washington, Khan emphasized the need for robust security ties between the two nations, enhanced intelligence cooperation, and the resumption of modern military platform sales.

Khan explained that Operation Azm-e-Istehkam is a comprehensive counter-terrorism effort comprising three elements: ideological, societal, and operational. While work on the first two stages has begun, the third stage is set to be implemented soon.

He stressed that this operation is crucial for countering the growing threat of terrorism, which not only affects Pakistan but also poses a risk to regional security interests of the US and its allies.

The ambassador highlighted the importance of basing bilateral relations on ground realities, rather than allowing a few issues to hinder the overall relationship.

He suggested that the US consider Pakistan as a partner in its diplomatic efforts in Kabul, particularly in areas such as counter-terrorism and women’s rights in Afghanistan.

This cooperation is vital for regional security and countering the rising tide of terrorism that threatens the interests of both the US and its allies.

Khan’s address at the Wilson Center was well-received, with a powerful statement from the US State Department’s Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary, Elizabeth Horst.

The event featured a impressive panel of experts and was attended by a large gathering of policymakers, scholars, experts, and corporate leaders.

The ambassador later took to social media to express his appreciation for the opportunity, noting the “bright prospects for Pak-US relations.”

Overall, Khan’s speech emphasized the need for strengthened security ties and cooperation between Pakistan and the US, particularly in the context of counter-terrorism efforts.

By highlighting the shared interests and security concerns of both nations, Khan aimed to promote a more collaborative approach to addressing the complex challenges facing the region.
