US-Pakistan Relationship
WASHINGON: Elizabeth Horst, the United States Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary, lauded Masood Khan, Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States, for his significant contributions in enhancing bilateral relations between Islamabad and Washington.
Speaking at a farewell dinner organized to honor Khan’s tenure, Horst expressed that the current state of US-Pakistan relations is at its strongest in recent years, largely attributed to Ambassador Khan’s diplomatic efforts.
“On behalf of the State Department, I want to emphasize that the US-Pakistan relationship is in the best place it’s been in years, thanks in large part to Ambassador Masood Khan’s representation of Pakistan and his efforts to foster connections between Islamabad and Washington,” Horst remarked.
The event, attended by officials from the Department of State and the Department of Defense, highlighted Khan’s pivotal role during his two-year tenure, which began in February 2022.
Recognizing the inherent challenges in longstanding relationships, Horst credited Khan for establishing a framework that facilitated constructive dialogue and resolution of differences.
She praised Khan’s ability to navigate complexities and promote stability, noting that under his leadership, new dialogues were initiated and avenues for cooperation in trade, health, energy, and climate were explored.
“We have seen unprecedented progress in our discussions and engagements, areas that have long been dormant,” Horst stated, underscoring Khan’s integrity, creativity, and hospitality in his diplomatic endeavors.
She highlighted his role in hosting influential lunches and fostering effective communication across governmental and congressional circles in the United States.
As Khan prepares to conclude his tenure, Horst assured him that his efforts have significantly strengthened the US-Pakistan relationship, making it more resilient and productive than before.
She conveyed gratitude on behalf of the State Department for Khan’s dedication and leadership, emphasizing the enduring impact of his diplomatic service.
“Masood, during your time here, you’ve not only enhanced our bilateral ties but also left a lasting impression.
