In the six-game ODI series against Pakistan Shaheens, Zimbabwe Select prevailed 4-2.
Despite their best efforts, the Shaheens were all out at 353 in 49.2 overs, missing the target by 32 runs.
I know Chabi, an umpire who has presided over more than 50 international matches across all forms, gave the home team five penalty runs as a result of Shaheens, commonly known as Pakistan A, tampering with the ball.
The publication mentioned that the specifics of how the ball had been tampered with as well as who was responsible for the tampering were still unknown.
The batting team may choose to replace the ball if the umpire decides that its condition has been unfairly changed, in accordance with the regulations.
“Irrespective of what the ball is replaced or not, they have to award five penalty runs to the opposing side,” Wisden said.
Law 41.3 of the Laws of Cricket specifically addresses the alteration of the match ball’s conditions.
Clause 41.3.4.2 states: “Regardless of whether a replacement ball has been chosen to be used, the bowler’s end umpire shall award 5 Penalty runs to the opposing side.”
