Bilateral Relations
ISLAMABAD: Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif attended a reception in Islamabad to celebrate the 54th National and Independence Day of Bangladesh as the chief guest. The event was hosted by Bangladesh High Commissioner Muhammad Iqbal Hussain Khan and his spouse Roushan Naheed.
Speaking at the ceremony, Asif emphasized the deep affection shared between the people of Pakistan and Bangladesh. He noted that both Islamabad and Dhaka were actively working to enhance economic, political, and cultural cooperation.
Asif reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening ties with Bangladesh, stating, “We value our relations with Bangladesh and look forward to deepening our engagement in various sectors.” He also extended heartfelt greetings to the government and people of Bangladesh on their Independence and National Day.
The defence minister praised Bangladesh’s impressive socio-economic progress and highlighted the historical ties between the two countries. He underlined the importance of fostering even stronger relations to boost development cooperation between the peoples of both nations.
Asif stressed that the rich cultural and historic connections serve as a strong foundation for further enhancing mutual understanding and friendship.
Bangladesh’s High Commissioner Muhammad Iqbal Hussain Khan, hosting his first National Day reception, expressed his satisfaction with the strong turnout of dignitaries. He recently returned from Dhaka after hosting Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary Ms. Amna Baloch, who led bilateral consultations after a 15-year hiatus.
In his address, High Commissioner Hussain Khan reiterated Bangladesh’s desire to maintain friendly relations with Pakistan. He spoke about the beauty and hospitality of Bangladesh, emphasizing the need for greater cooperation and stronger ties based on mutual respect and understanding.
The event saw the participation of several federal ministers, including Professor Ahsan Iqbal Chaudhary, Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhary, Moeen Wattoo, Ham Kamal, Khel Das Kohistani, Malik Rasheed Ahmad, Qaiser Ahmad Sheikh, and Muhammad Junaid Anwar. It was also attended by members of the diplomatic community, civil society, media, and business leaders.
Adding a cultural touch, the evening featured traditional Bangladeshi cuisine, including Bengali Rasgulla and Becky fish, creating a vibrant and memorable atmosphere.
During the ceremony, national anthems of both Pakistan and Bangladesh were played, and the chief guest, along with the high commissioner and other special guests, cut a celebratory cake.
High Commissioner Hussain Khan also paid tribute to the freedom fighters and those who participated in Bangladesh’s 2024 mass uprising, calling for the realization of the aspirations of the people of both nations through strengthened bilateral ties.
