Pakistan issues alert for probable monkeypox cases

Sindh Health Department warned hospitals last week about monkeypox

Radio Pakistan said on Monday that the government has instructed national and provincial health officials to be on high alert for monkeypox.

However, officials denied social media reports of potential monkeypox cases in Pakistan, saying they were constantly monitoring the situation.

The Sindh Health Department warned hospitals last week about monkeypox. In the US and Britain, 111 suspected and confirmed cases have been recorded.

Monkeypox produces fever and a rash. It spreads through animals, people, or infected objects.

Monday was almost a week since the UAE announced its first monkeypox case.

The health ministry did not disclose infected persons. First, a 29-year-old West African visitor got infected.

Since January, Nigeria has recorded 61 suspected cases of monkeypox, with 21 confirmed and one fatality.

Since early May, at least 19 nations, predominantly in Europe, have reported over 200 suspected and confirmed cases of the virus. The virus has killed nobody yet.
