ISLAMABAD: The Meteorological Office informs that westerly monsoon waves are likely to enter the western and upper parts of the country in today’s evening.
As per the Meteorological Office’s prediction, the inaugural monsoon showers of the year are anticipated to begin today and last until July 8.
The precipitation could be accompanied by gusty winds, creating potential hazards for tall structures and vulnerable constructions, as highlighted in the Met Office’s warning on Sunday.
Commencing on July 3, a nationwide onset of the monsoon season is expected, encompassing the entire country and bringing forth rain, thunderstorms, and windstorms.
Furthermore, the upper regions of the country are likely to experience the arrival of a westerly wave on July 3, potentially leading to substantial rainfall, hailstorms, and intermittent showers until July 8, 2023.
Between July 4 and July 7, there is a potential risk of urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Gujranwala, and Lahore due to heavy rainfall.
Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, as well as Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mianwali, Sargodha, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Jhang, and Toba Tek Singh are expected to experience continued rainy and windy conditions.
Caution is advised in the vulnerable locations of Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and the hilly regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as these areas are prone to landslides throughout this period.
Farmers are recommended to adapt their activities considering the prevailing weather conditions, while tourists are urged to exercise additional caution to avoid any unfavorable situations during the rainy period.
