ISLAMABAD: The Prime Minister condemns the recurring instances of Quran burning as “satanic,” expressing deep anguish among Muslims worldwide. An extreme-right group in Copenhagen burnt a copy of the Quran.
Pakistan expressed strong condemnation of the desecration of the Holy Quran at the Iraqi embassy in Denmark, which adds to a series of similar events in Nordic countries.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his anguish over the incident in a tweet. It states that such actions deeply anguish Muslims worldwide.
An extreme-right group called Danske Patrioter in Copenhagen carried out the desecration. In a video, a man is seen desecrating, burning, and trampling the holy book, along with an Iraqi flag.
Following a similar event, others in recent weeks in Stockholm, the latest video of Quran desecration in Denmark has caused a deep pain. It has created distress among Pakistanis.
Prime Minister Shehbaz stated that the recurring pattern of such abominable and Satanic incidents aims to damage inter-faith relations. It promotes religious hatred, and foster Islamophobia, undermining peace and harmony.
The prime minister called upon governments and faith leaders to take action and put an end to these abhorrent practices.
“We must not allow a handful of misguided and evil individuals to hurt the emotions of billions of people. Their nefarious agenda should not dictate our actions,” he said.
Iraq strongly condemned the burning of a copy of the Holy Quran in front of their embassy. Their foreign ministry stated that such acts fuel “the virus of extremism and hate,” posing a real threat to peaceful coexistence.
Muslim nations have seen thousands protesting against the Quran’s desecration, with violent protests in Iraq.
Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen condemned the Quran burning and clarified that such acts do not represent the views of the Danish government. He appealed for de-escalation, emphasizing that violence should never be the response.
