Pakistan Army troops have been deployed in Lahore to ensure a peaceful electoral process ahead of the general elections scheduled for February 8th.
The Punjab home department confirmed the presence of army personnel not only in Lahore but also in Kasur and Sheikhupura, with additional deployments planned for Mandi Bahauddin, Chakwal, and other districts on Wednesday.
The provincial home department underscored the paramount importance of maintaining law and order during the elections. They have maintained constant communication with the army across all districts to coordinate efforts effectively. Military contingents from various garrisons, including Lahore, Multan, Okara garrison, Bahawalpur, and Gujranwala, have been dispatched to different districts to bolster security measures.
The deployment of military troops is strategically aimed at assisting the civil administration in overseeing the general election. Their role includes ensuring transparency in the electoral process and upholding law and order throughout the polling period. The troops will play a critical role as the third tier of security outside polling stations, complementing the first tier provided by the police and the second tier secured by civil armed forces.
The security plan is meticulously designed to create a robust framework for a smooth and secure electoral process. With the elections just around the corner, scheduled for Thursday, February 8th, the collaboration between military, police, and civil armed forces reflects a comprehensive strategy to safeguard the democratic exercise and maintain public order.
