Over 1,500 PTI Supporters Detained in Islamabad

PTI Supporters

At least 1,520 supporters of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have been detained in Islamabad over the past three days as authorities continue their crackdown against the party’s workers.

The arrests come amid heightened tensions as the former ruling party prepares for a major protest in the federal capital.

Former prime minister and PTI leader Imran Khan, who remains in custody, has called on his supporters to march to Islamabad on November 24.

The protest is aimed at pressing for the restoration of democracy and the judiciary’s independence.

However, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has criticized the planned demonstration, labeling it an “insurrection” and accusing PTI of attempting to seize control of the federal capital through unlawful means.

Imran Khan has outlined four key demands to bring an end to the protests, while his wife has stated that the protest date could be reconsidered only if Khan is released from jail.

PTI’s plans faced a significant hurdle last Thursday when the Islamabad High Court ruled that any protests or rallies violating the recently enacted public gathering law would not be allowed over the weekend due to the visit of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.

To ensure law and order, the federal government has bolstered Islamabad’s security, deploying additional police, paramilitary Rangers, and other law enforcement personnel.

The heightened security measures come as PTI convoys continue to make their way toward the capital from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, undeterred by roadblocks and the legal restrictions imposed by the courts.

PTI leaders have expressed their dissatisfaction with the High Court’s ruling, claiming that their case was not given a fair hearing.

The party remains resolute in its efforts, despite the significant number of arrests and the government’s stringent measures to curb the protest.

As the situation unfolds, Islamabad remains on high alert, with authorities bracing for further developments in the political standoff.
