The Excise and Taxation Department of Punjab issued a notice for the assessment of luxury house tax to the late mother of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan at his Lahore property.
On Thursday, an Excise Department team consisting of ETO Adeel Amjad and Inspector Amna Rashid served a notice to Khan’s Zaman Park residence requesting payment of Rs 3.6 million in arrears.
According to authorities, the notification issued in the name of Shaukat Khanum, Khan’s late mother.
Ms. Khanum, a housewife, died of cancer 38 years ago in 1985, but the property is still in her name.
Also, a team of two Excise and Taxation department employees travelled to Zaman Park to issue the notice.
The PTI chief owes Rs 3.6 million in taxes.
The officials indicated that if he does not comply with the warning, an ex-parte investigation will be conducted.
However, an excise official, Adeel Amjad, told The News that if Imran Khan does not comply, the Excise Department would not contact the Election Commission since it is not within their authority.
The official denied any political persecution and stated that the Excise Department has chosen to examine all luxury properties that span two or more Kanals.
Also, When questioned why they delayed the notification despite the fact that the law went into force through the Finance Act of 2014, excise authorities denied answering and did not react to any additional questions.
